An evening of literary entertainment and fun, based around the theme of a writer’s encounters with language, and with the limits of language. This will include short, dramatic presentations of writers as diverse as Pablo Neruda, Janet Frame and Bob Dylan. Novelist and poet Mike Johnson will explore some of his own encounters with language in his poetry and prose. Actor, poet, and comedienne Sophia Johnson (Shortland Street) will support Mike in the dramatic presentations and read a selection of her own work. Auckland stand-up comedians Logan Kitney and Anthony Wilson will do a twenty-minute comedy slot. The evening will be assisted by some evocative piano work by Hannah Blumhardt.

Mike Johnson: Long-time resident of Waiheke: poet, fiction writer, author of 13 books, and one-time columnist for the Marketplace. Teaches creative writing at AUT University.

Sophia Johnson: an Auckland based actress whose titles include Shortland Street and The Evil Dead. She is about to embark on a new TV show... but enough said for now!

Logan Kitney: A graduate of the 2011 Class Comedians programme, Logan is now settling in as a very promising new face on the local comedy circuit with some nice perspectives on self-image and dating.

Anthony Wilson: One of the country's fastest rising comedians. "NZ's riskiest young comedian" - Brendhan Lovegrove.
"Anthony Wilson is definitely a talented comedian with a lot of potential." - Dominion Post.

Hannah Blumhardt: Hannah has just emerged from six years of hibernation / university study (BA (Hons) and LLB (Hons)) and is now returning to the world of performance art, musical composition and radio broadcasting - with some legal work on the side!
