Heidelberg Youth Chamber Orchestra (Junge Kammerphilharmonie Rhein-Neckar)
Conductor: Thomas Kalb

Programme:
Mozart: Divertimento in F (K138)
Arensky: Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky
Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings

On Sunday 1 September the Waikanae Music Society will present a concert by the Junge Kammerphilharmonie Rhein-Neckar, otherwise known as the Heidelberg Youth Chamber Orchestra. In this concert with a difference to celebrate the first day of spring, a bus-load of enthusiastic and talented young German musicians will showcase their talent in the Waikanae Memorial Hall.

Under the leadership of their acclaimed musical director Thomas Kalb, these extraordinary young musicians make up one of the best youth chamber ensembles in Europe and have taken top prizes in a number of European orchestral competitions. Ranging in age from 18 to 28, the players are drawn from the major music schools in Germany and many of them have won individual awards and accolades.

The musicians travel to Heidelberg from all over Germany to spend one weekend a month, and occasionally a whole week, rehearsing an ambitious repertoire which the orchestra performs not only in Germany but also throughout Europe and overseas. Founded in 2002, the orchestra has previously toured twice to Canada and the USA, but this current New Zealand tour will be the most extensive they have undertaken, with around 20 concerts throughout the country.

Their electrifying performances have impressed audiences throughout Europe and in North America. Marco Parisoto of the Ontario Philharmonic wrote of their performance “I was amazed at the quality of this youth ensemble. The sound quality, the phrasing, the articulation and colours were simply outstanding".

For Waikanae their popular programme of well-known works by Mozart, Arensky and Tchaikovsky is sure to be presented with the precision and panache for which they are renowned.

The concert starts at 2.30pm. Door sales will be available or tickets can be purchased at Waikanae New World, Moby Dickens Books in Paraparaumu Beach or at Lush Design Gallery in Raumati. Enquiries are welcome on 04 905 6070 or visit www.waikanaemusic.org
