Happy Planet Room 6 is happy to announce that the legendary HERBS will play a one-off concert at Te Atatu Rugby League Club on Saturday 17 August.

Herbs have been influential on the NZ music scene for over 30 years and in 2012 received a well-deserved induction into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame. They are the founding fathers of ‘Pacific Reggae’ with a song-list of beautiful ballads such as Always On My Mind and Sensitive to a Smile, to classic protest songs such as Nuclear Waste and French Letter. They also had many famous collaborations, most notably with Dave Dobbyn on the kiwi anthem Slice of Heaven and Annie Crummer on the uplifting See What Love Can Do.

The concert at Te Atatu Rugby League Club will be an ‘unplugged’ set featuring Dilworth Karaka, Tama Renata, Tama Lundon and Leyton Greening on percussion. It is an amazing opportunity to see these artists in an intimate setting and at the same time, support the local school, Te Atatu Intermediate.

Support artists for the concert are also local musicians with ties to the school. CAT TUNKS from Black Sand Diva contributes her wild style of Aotearoa soul, with a jazz and funk backbone. With her whiskey smooth vocals and a worldly unique style, CAT brings her South Pacific sophistication to any performance.

Poroa is known to many as Andrea Tunks, Andrea was the recipient of the APRA Silver Scroll Maioha Award in 2007. Her pure, gentle vocals and her Te Reo lyrics are one of a kind. Contemporary Aotearoa soul at its best with evocative vocals and lyrics in Maori and English. Bicultural, bilingual, sassy, funky.

Ruff Copy will be providing their smooth blues, crunching rock and rootsy reggae and taking us up to the midnight hour. Covering all the kiwi classics and good old sing-a-long numbers is their style. This band is lots of fun and a guaranteed crowd pleaser!
