This year promises to be a great Show. A variety of irises will be on display, the majority being tall bearded irises. There will be other varieties such as the miniature tall bearded, known as the ‘table iris’ as they have a smaller flower than the tall bearded and do not grow as tall. Other bearded irises on show will be border bearded and intermediates which tend to flower a little before the show but some of the later ones may still be in bloom. Standard dwarf and miniature dwarf will also be past their peak flowering season, again the later ones will be on show.
Further variety will be offered by the crested and beardless irises, resulting in an array of different flower shapes and colours. Siberian, japanese, louisiana, pacific coast, dutch, evansia and spuria irises can also be expected to be on show.

The public are encouraged to participate in showing their blooms and can contact Carole Flyger (06 357 3424) or come to the Leisure Centre between 8a.m. and 10a.m. where members will assist in staging the blooms. I. pseudacorus and I. foetidissima are not permitted to be shown due to their invasive growth and are not encouraged to be grown.
Over 300 plants will be offered for sale over the two days, most are tall bearded irises with border and intermediate bearded irises also available. A huge selection of cultivars that are not available from commercial growers will be offered for sale. Pacific coast and species seedlings grown from seeds procured from New Zealand and USA will be available for keen gardeners who would like something a little different in their garden.
