With much anticipated hype for Hip Hop fans for the summer, Niche and Live Nation have announced Brooklyn rapper Joey Badass will play one show at Auckland’s Powerstation on Friday 6th December, with special guest and fellow Brooklyn-ites The Underachievers in tow.

With a meteoric rise onto the scene in early 2012, the Flatbush teenager’s style effortlessly masters the nostalgic 90’s boom-bap sounds yet remains 100% a part of the new school, thanks to appearances with ASAP Rocky and Mac Miller.

Hailed as New York’s future rap prince, 18 year-old Joey Badass’s introspective lyrical form is far beyond his years, with his complex flow confidently layering over jazzy instrumentals.

In June 2012, Joey Badass’ 1999 mixtape quickly went viral; with fans of new school Rap excited for something fresh and die hard old school heads being satisfied with something familiar. Triple j picked up the single Waves and following in September, Bada$$ dropped Rejex: a collection of songs that did not make 1999. In June 2013, he followed up with Summer Knights (featuring the jjj supported Word Is Bond) and announced that his full length debut album would be released in early 2014 and would feature Pete Rock, Q-Tip and DJ Premier.

With a raw energy reminiscent of 90’s Hip Hop, The Underachievers have shaken up the scene with a refreshing new voice. The Underachievers have evolved from a DIY movement in Brooklyn to shutting down stages on tour with Kendrick Lamar and taking on the world, one hypnotic video at a time and in turn, clocking over 2.5 million Youtube views.

Signed to Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint, The Underachievers’ debut mixtape Indigoism came out at a time when Brooklyn was making all kinds of noise with acts like Flatbush Zombies and Action Bronson poised to take over.

As members of the Beast Coast movement (which includes Joey Badass and his Pro Era crew), The Underachievers are part of the new wave of rappers that have been coming out of New York. But they’re also repping the West: last summer the duo signed to Flying Lotus’ label in LA, Brainfeeder.

As Joey Badass takes over the Auckland stage, this is one Hip Hop show not to miss for the summer. Tickets are set to sell out fast.

Tickets on sale from Friday 30th August through Ticketmaster.
