'Kapo Kapo' translates to 'Twinkle Twinkle' and reflects this festival's celebration of Matariki in our communities. Kapo Kapo will Celebrate our Stars of Tomorrow.

Once a year, twinkling in the winter sky just before dawn, Matariki (the Pleiades) signals the Maori New Year.

Mana Tiaki is an urban Maori whanau network based in Tawa that reach community kapa haka and provide pastoral support to families. Following on from the success of the Mana Tiaki Cultural Festivals that were run in Tawa, Mana Tiaki is running ‘Kapo Kapo’ to celebrate the cultural diversity in Tawa and Porirua.

The Kapo Kapo festival is happening in the opening week of Matariki across three evenings at Te Rauparaha Arena and will showcase the Maori and Pasifika performing arts inschools throughout Tawa and Porirua. With 29 schools and 1400 children involved it promises to be a spectacular cultural extravaganza!
