There is growing interest in the ukulele in the Bay of Plenty. Many people who have never played music before, but have always wanted to, find they are able to pick up a ukulele and be playing songs straight away. Cost and age are no barrier. The third Katikati Ukulele Festival will bring players together from all over New Zealand and overseas.

Our festival has a Kiwiana theme, Kiwi Music Ukulele Style! With maximum participation, affordability and having fun while making music, at no matter what level of playing. There will be opportunities for visitors to perform in the street, at the open mike session and at music jams.

Saturday morning (April 6) visiting groups are invited to busk in the town centre.

Saturday afternoon (April 6) starts with a play and sing-along at 12pm, followed by workshops and an open mike session. Kevin Fogarty, The Nukes and others will run workshops for all levels and ages.

An early evening concert (April 6) at 6 pm will feature the Nukes and the Ukulele All Stars.

The Katikati Ukulele Festival Tea Room will be organised by the volunteers from a local community group.

Children are well catered for at the festival on Saturday, with a Move-to-the-Beat workshop with Nana Gaye. They will be busy, playing and singing along, joining in workshops, and performing. Hopefully parents and grandparents will grab a uke and join them.
