The Mayoral Debate will allow the public to hear the leading Auckland mayoral candidates’ detailed views and vision for the future of city. Questions on topics such as housing affordability, future transport options and the proposed Auckland Unitary Plan will be directed to the current Mayor Len Brown as well as three other contenders for his job – John Minto, John Palino and the Reverend Uesifili Unasa. The mayoral hopefuls, who hold diverse views on many issues, will have to answer five questions each. Chaired by well-known journalist and political commentator Rod Oram, the Mayoral Debate is expected to be provocative and lively. With Election Day approaching fast, this is the perfect opportunity for voters to size up the contenders.

The debate is part of the Fast Forward lecture series at the National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries at The University of Auckland. Hosted by the School of Architecture and Planning the annual series includes lectures by internationally renowned architects, as well as sessions focussing on the Auckland Supercity. The debate is free and open to the public.
