NZSM Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) candidate Irina Andreeva presents a lecture recital called 'Viola and Compania' as part of her work towards the postgraduate degree.

Irina is making a special study of chamber music for viola by French composer Darius Milhaud (1892-1974). In this lecture recital she will present a selection of Milhaud’s works for viola in chronological order, including brief information about those people to whom these pieces were dedicated.

The works included will be:
Sonatina for violin and viola, Op.226 (1941)
Concertino dʹété for viola and chamber orchestra, Op.311 (1951)
Sonatina for viola and cello, Op.378 (1959)
Elegie pour Pierre for viola, timpani and 2 percussion, op. 416 (1965)

She will be accompanied in the recital by Associate Professor Martin Riseley, Dr Jian Liu, Margaret Guldborg, Dorothy Raphael, James Fuller and Reuben Jellyman.

[NB: Irina continues her exploration of viola works by Milhaud in the first NZSM Orchestra concert of the year on Tuesday 9 April when she will be the soloist in a performance of the composers 2nd Viola Concerto.]
