NZSM Orchestra - Verdi–Wagner

Tue 28 May 2013, 7:30pm–10:00pm

Where: Wellington Town Hall, 111 Wakefield St, Wellington

The NZSM Orchestra's second concert for 2013 will be their annual 'Town Hall' concert, a major event in the wonderful acoustic of Wellington's Town Hall.

2013 is the 200th anniversary year for two of history's most highly regarded opera composers – Verdi and Wagner were both born in 1813.

This concert's programme includes both orchestral and operatic masterpieces from each:
Verdi's 'Overture to La Forza del Destino' alongside arias from his operas 'Il Corsaro' (a preview of the July NZSM production), 'Trovatore' 'Rigoletto', 'Don Carlo' and 'Un Ballo in Maschera'. Wagner will be represented by the 'Wesendonck Lieder' with Margaret Medlyn alongside orchestral excerpts the 'Prelude' (Overture) to 'Die Meistersinger' and the 'The Entry of the Gods into Valhalla' from 'Das Rheingold'.

The NZSM Orchestra, conducted by Kenneth Young, will be joined by postgraduate students from NZSM's Classical Performance Voice Programme and Head of Voice, Margaret Medlyn.

Tickets are available through Ticketek: A & B Reserve, Adults and Seniors/Students from $15-$35
