The Play for Grace committee has recently been formed in an effort to host a Parliamentary Rugby & Netball Fundraiser, the profits of which will support a brighter future for 11 year old Grace Yeats of Carterton.
After months in Starship Children’s Hospital, Grace has been diagnosed with severe basal ganglia necrosis following an autoimmune encephalitis caused by Dopamine Type 2 receptor autoantibodies.
She is the 13th worldwide to be diagnosed as such and of all the cases she is the most severely affected.
This has resulted in severe dystonia, muscle contractures, scoliosis and recently seizures.
Grace is unable to move her body at will, speak or swallow.
She has however been spared cognitively and she sees, hears and understands everything around her.
She has very limited movement in one of her feet and can slightly turn her head.
Grace is thankfully still able to respond to humor with smiles and laughter.
Whilst progress is underway to see that Grace can return to her family home, the ongoing care and rehabilitation of Grace comes at a cost and the Yeats family need all of the support they can get for their next phase.
That's where we come in! On Saturday the 7th of September we will be showcasing a family fun event that sees famous local Rugby and Netball figures going head to head with teams from the Parliamentary Sports Trust.
There will be a range of side line activities on offer for all ages and all that we ask is that you spare what you can (time and money) to support this fantastic cause.
The sporting spectacular will be followed by an after match function which will include an evening of entertainment, a meal and an auction.
Mark it on the calendar and bring along your friends and family for a day of play!
