This stunning photographic exhibition tells the story of a unique winter research expedition to the Arctic Ocean. All photos were taken by French photographer Vincent Hilaire during the northern hemisphere winter of 2007-2008. The expedition yacht Tara (ex Seamaster, previously owned by Sir Peter Blake) was locked in sea ice near the North Pole while those onboard were involved in the European climate change project Damocles which was part of the International Polar Year. This exhibition of black and white photos is accompanied by an original sound scape, composed of the ice movement. A book about the exhibition written by the expedition leader, Grant Redvers, is also available for purchase. This book, Tara Arctic - A New Zealander's Epic Voyage, tells the story of the whole expedition focusing on the human adventure, the scientific mission and the challenges of working in a small isolated multi-national team for a year and half on the Arctic Ocean. Polar Night opens on Saturday 15 June and is supported by Alliance Francais, Canon NZ and Tara Expeditions. Free entry. Donations appreciated.
