Rock On into Canterbury Museum for the School Holidays!
Ever wondered how rocks are made? Come along to Canterbury Museum’s ‘Rock On’ holiday programme and explore the wonderful world of rocks. Learn about the different ways rocks are made and create your own rock formation to take home with you. Warning – they may glow in the dark!! Classes for juniors (4 – 7 years old) are on 3rd and 4th of October and 10th and 11th of October, 10:00am -11:30am and 1:00pm – 2:30pm each day. Numbers are limited to 15 children per session and cost $5.50 per child.

Budding geologists ahoy! In this senior-student hands-on workshop, we’ll look at the world of rocks and find out how they form through experiments, models and simulations. We’ll also use the Museum’s own collection of rocks and minerals to delve deeper into how the Earth was made. Bring along a mystery rock and by the end of the workshop we’ll see if we can work out which of the 3 basic types of rock it is. These classes are for seniors (8 – 13 years old) and run on 30th September and 1st October and the 7th and 8th of October. They are 1 Day workshops from 10:00am – 3:00pm. These are limited to 16 people per workshop so book early. $10.00 per person. Don’t forget to bring your lunch!
