Just when you thought you'd have to go to Riversdale or a vineyard and pay big bucks for some good music, along comes New Zealand’s leading big band leader and jazz trombonist Rodger Fox with his jazz sextet for a $10 concert in Carterton.

Rodger and the band will present a programme of great jazz at St Marks Church, High Street South. The summer concert has become something of a tradition at St Marks, thanks to the enthusiasm of minister Jenny Chalmers and the help of Vibe Promotions. This year’s programme will be based around the "Great American Songbook" and will include jazz standards, blues and Bossanova numbers.

The sextet comprises Dan Hayles (piano), Nick Granville (guitar), Rowan Clark (bass), Lauren Ellis (drums), Erna Ferry (vocals) and Rodger Fox (trombone).

All the performers have just completed a week’s teaching at the New Zealand High School Jazz Workshop in Wellington.

This year is the 40th year of Rodger Fox leading his big band with many events planned during 2013, so look out for more great jazz this year!

Admission to Sunday’s concert is just $10 (door sales only, no advance bookings). For those who enjoy a glass of wine with their jazz, Paulownia Wines will be on hand with some of their fine wines. See you there!
