The Romans are coming.

Journey back in time to relive history and discover the life, the culture, the determination and genius that carved the great Roman Empire of 52BC-476AD.

The Roman Machines exhibition explores four themes:

Military Genius, which explores how through discipline, tactics, communication and the war machines themselves, how the Roman army came to be seen as unbeatable.

All roads lead to Rome, which is dedicated to the Roman civil genius and shows how the Romans mastered technology to control their environment and govern their citizens.

Building Rome, which contains the devices that contributed to the massive construction and industrialisation of the Roman Empire, which may be considered the prelude to the industrial revolution.

Entertainment and lifestyle which explores how the Romans used their skills and knowledge in architecture and engineering for entertainment and relaxation.

There are thirty hands-on machines in the exhibition to explore these themes.
