Wellington’s La Boca Loca restaurant has recently been playing host to the cast of crew of The Hobbit, but now it’s time for locals to enjoy this much-loved Mexican restaurant’s special blend of hospitality. Now in its fourth year, Summerfest is a boutique, family-friendly food and beer festival that matches fantastic local tastes with the best of New Zealand beers, all accompanied by tasting notes and on-site advice from beer raconteur and National Radio commentator Neil Miller.

Perched over the sea in Wellington's picturesque Seatoun Bays, Worser Bay’s character boating club is the perfect setting to soak up the views and enjoy Summerfest’s celebration of great summer tastes. This year, La Boca Loca will be providing the food matches for a range of Tuatara blends - tempting morsels like sopes of spiced mussels; albondagas meatballs on tortillas; smoked fish empanadas; and back by popular demand, potato & epazote flautitas. In a break from tradition, La Boca Loca chef Will Michel also introduces a clam ceviche as the match for Shoestring Wine’s ‘L’il Rippa Rose’.

Will and others from the La Bocal Loca team will be on hand to discuss the food matches and showcase La Boca Loca’s new product range, including fresh tortillas and salsas, all developed with the finest ingredients and tested at the flagship Miramar restaurant. Summerfest is primarily supported by Tuatara, but other boutique beers and cider will be flowing plus there’s a selection of L’il Rippa wines and La Boca Loca margaritas from 5pm. Children will be well catered for with their own entertainment and food.

While enjoying the tastes and smells of Summerfest, there will also be blend of music to absorb including gypsy folk, blues, laid-back Irish ballads and hot summer jazz. John Rae is an award-winning Scottish jazz musician and composer, most well known to Wellington audiences for his band The Troubles. John has put together a jazz ensemble just for Summerfest. Also on the bill are Hokum Brothers' Cajun songs and sultry strings; Irishman Pat Higgins’ celtic ballads and lyrical folk from Kerry Wood and Sharon Greally’s band Rose Road.

There'll also be a small selection of crafters selling their wears including jewellers Smash Place (
