The No Square jazz quartet comes from Switzerland and in this concert, co-hosted by the Embassy of Switzerland and Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music, they add their musical expertise to a celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between our two countries.

The quartet was founded in July 1994, with Matthieu Durmarque on saxophones, Matthieu Roffé on piano, André Hahne on bass, and Alexandre Ambroziak on drums. This intensely creative group has toured extensively throughout the world and produced eight albums. No Square has just come back from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and are currently completing a 19 city tour of China, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand presenting their latest album Les Lois de L'Ephémère.

Square was formerly known as No Square Trio, (Michael Fleiner, André Hahne, Yannick Oppliger). However, after the trio’s fruitful encounter with saxophonist Daniel Küffer, they became a quartet. The years of work, complicity, and friendship between these musicians can be felt in their music. Gain a preview of their performances from their website:

- The Fly (1996)
