Te Koki Trio

Jian Liu (Piano)
Martin Riseley (Violin)
Inbal Megiddo (Cello)

(Te Koki means 'Dawn Chorus' and is the name of the New Zealand School of Music.)

Programme:
Beethoven: Piano Trio (Opus 70, No 1 'The Ghost')
John Psathas: Tarantismo
Tchaikovsky: Piano Trio in A minor (Opus 50)

This trio of distinguished musicians was formed in 2012 at the New Zealand School of Music where they all teach. Pianist Jian Liu, who is Lecturer in Piano at the NZSM, impressed Waikanae audiences last year with an electrifying performance when he stood in for Piers Lane at 24 hours notice. He has been honoured in a number of international competitions and has performed in many prestigious concert halls around the world. Inbal Megiddo, Lecturer in Cello at the school, is a remarkable cellist who has also received many awards and prizes and accolades internationally. Violinist Martin Riseley is Head of Strings and Associate Director of Performance at the NZSM.

Their programme includes Beethoven’s well-known 'Ghost' Trio and the mighty emotionally intense Tchaikovsky Trio. A brief piece by the trio's NZSM colleague John Psathas will provide an interesting contrast.

“The playing was always expressive with beautiful tone, utterly accurate and in perfect ensemble. Jian Liu summons magic with his fingers” (Rosemary Collier, Middle C)

The concert, in the Waikanae Memorial Hall, starts at 2.30pm. There will be door sales or tickets can be purchased at Waikanae New World, Moby Dickens Books in Paraparaumu Beach or at Lush Design Gallery in Raumati.
