The unique sounds of the small pipes and harp together playing traditional, contemporary and original tunes from the world of Celtic music.

Shane and Anna are well known in their respective instruments. Both started learning music as youngsters and went on to perform and teach in New Zealand and overseas. Their musical paths almost crossed many times since their teenage years, but only in the last few years have they started exploring and stretching the boundaries of these very traditional instruments.

Coming from different early musical backgrounds - pipe bands for Shane, and classical music for Anna, and playing two fundamentally different instruments, these two musicians meet on common musical ground. Both are published composers with their own work and by writing and arranging music for small pipes and harp they are always looking for ways to extend the repertoire and colour of the combination of instruments. Using traditional forms (such as jigs, reels, hornpipes, marches and airs) to structure their music, and the play of melody and harmony between the two instruments allows the harp to extend the range of the small pipes which is traditionally limited to keys with 2 sharps, and the range of a ninth... Somewhat of a surprise initially to Anna who was used to a minimum of 30 strings and up to eight notes a time in a handful of chords! Don’t be surprised to hear the occasional traditional song from Anna or whistle tune from Shane too.

And Shane’s understanding of harps is not just limited to playing alongside one - he also makes them in his spare time, along with making modifications to his bagpipes. He knows his instruments inside and out!
