Travel with Steam Incorporated on this special Mothers Day outing featuring our recently restored 1950s diesel locomotive Da1431.

The train will run from Paekakariki to Paekakariki via Wellington, Masterton, Woodville & Palmerston North. Travelling over one of Wellington’s best kept secrets, the grand circle route, we will circumnavigate the Tararua Range in a counter-clockwise direction. During the journey we will pass through Eketahuna and Mangatainoka plus travel through the spectacular Manawatu Gorge. You will be able to see the work being done to clear the massive slip blocking the highway through the gorge.

Complimenting Da1431 the train will comprise our fleet of classic red “steel” cars. There will be an open air viewing platform on the train

The train will include a buffet counter selling sandwiches, drinks and snacks, and a souvenir counter for all sorts of railway and steam memorabilia. You are welcome to bring your own food on the train.

We intend making a 60 minute stop adjacent to the Paper Road Vineyard at Opaki just north of Masterton for a refreshment stop. There will be the option of a pre-ordered roast meal available at the vineyard, or an on train meal, or just the opportunity to sample some of the wine and be entertained by our own Wayne Mason.

We will make several other stops during the day for photo opportunities and a leg stretch.

You can board the train at Paekakariki, Plimmerton, Porirua, Tawa, Wellington, Petone, Waterloo, Upper Hutt, Featherston, Carterton and Masterton.

Opaki roast meal option - $37 (limited nos)
Carved prime roast beef, served with horseradish sauce and traditional Yorkshire pudding, roasted seasonal vegetables and delicious house made gravy to compliment your meal.

You will also be served with two complimentary beverages you can choose from:
• Pinot Noir 2011 (New World Wine Awards Bronze Medal)
• Sauvignon Blanc 2010
• Or orange juice, apple juice, tomato juice
Later in the afternoon we will serve you a slice of Yummy Mummy’s Cheesecake at your seat.

Opaki on train meal option - $25 (limited nos)
After arriving at Opaki you will have 30 minutes to have a leg stretch, enjoy a glass of wine (own cost), and be entertained by Wayne Mason. We will then request that you reboard the train and will serve a meal at you seat of diced beef braised in red wine and mixed seasonal vegetables served with aromatic turmeric rice. Later in the afternoon we will serve you a slice of Yummy Mummy’s Cheesecake at your seat. Coffee included.

Wayne Mason
One of our active members is the renowned Wayne Mason of The X-ray Catz, Warratahs, Fourmyula and “Nature” fame. He will keep us entertained during our Opaki stopover.

On arrival back the train will terminate at Paekakariki and not run back into Wellington. For passengers boarding at stations other than Paekakariki you will have to transfer to a Tranz Metro service to complete your journey. Our fare does not include travel on Tranz Metro services.
