Travel with Steam Incorporated North from Kapiti via Palmerston North to the river city of Wanganui enjoying a full day of steam travel. This is one of our special excursions to help celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first passenger train in New Zealand that ran back on 1st December 1863.

The train will be hauled by our steam locomotive Ja1271 from Paekakariki to Wanganui. We will be using our vintage carriages, many with open balcony ends and over 100 years old.

The train will include a buffet counter selling sandwiches, sausages, hamburgers, drinks and snacks. You are welcome to bring your own food along. In the same carriage as the buffet counter is a souvenir counter selling all sorts of railway and steam memorabilia. Sorry NO EFTPOS on the train.

Train fare ex Kapiti Stations Adult $139, Child $99. Ex Levin Adult $125, Child $89, Ex Palmerston North Adult $115, Child $80.

A recent Wanganui attraction is the Tramways Wanganui Trust depot and museum. Here you can inspect the completed restoration of Wanganui tram No 12.
