Vivaldi - The Four Seasons
Piazzolla - The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires
Instantly recognisable, The Four Seasons is Antonio Vivaldi’s most famous and well-loved work. Published in 1725, the four concertos were accompanied by sonnets, which were reputably written by the composer himself brilliantly uses music to depict the seasons.
Music representing the moods of the four season had always been popular but until Vivaldi none had done so with such precise pictorial detail.
Moving forward to the 20th Century, Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires combines elements easily recognisable from Vivaldi’s earlier work. Not only does it share the general concept of depicting four seasons in music albeit in Argentina and not Italy, it also presents a solo violin featured within an orchestral texture in highly virtuosic style. The music is infused with Argentinian flair combining elements of tango and jazz.
Guest artist, violinist Ida Kavafian, enjoys an international reputation as one of the most versatile musicians performing today. With a repertoire as diverse as her talents, Ms. Kavafian has electrified stages as a recitalist as well as a soloist with major orchestras across the globe.
