The Cavell Leitch New Zealand Jazz & Blues Festival presents:

Vanilau, Maxwell, Baker
The Press Jazz In the Dome

Three Antipodean minstrels collaborate with a focus on vocal harmony reminiscent of Crosby, Stills and Nash but with contemporary elements and original songs.

Warren Maxwell, best-known for Trinity Roots, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Little Bushman, has worked with both the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Auckland Philharmonia.

Mark Vanilau, a multi-instrumentalist with a distinctive, velveteen voice, has worked with New Zealand’s best: he is a regular member of Dave Dobbyn’s band, played on Hollie Smith’s album and has been in bands with Ladi 6 and Scribe.

Young Wellingtonian Louis Baker brings a rich vocal style to the mix and is known for his ability to move a room to a complete stand-still with his soulful vocals and endearingly honest lyrics.

Appearing in Christchurch for the first time as a trio, these musicians will bring a special soul guaranteed to lift your spirits.

“I haven’t experienced emotionally moving music like this since Eric Clapton’s Unplugged. These men are to New Zealand what The Band was to the United States in the 1970s - a musos’ band” - Janet Whittington, Nelson Mail.
