A short film is now screening at the Museum of Wellington City & Sea. Welcome to Wellington follows ‘a day in the life’ of our city from sunrise to sunset, told through the eyes of the people of Wellington. Developed in partnership with the New Zealand Film Archive, it draws on archival material from different periods of Wellington’s history.

Playing on the Museum’s Tall Screen feature - a unique visitor experience stretching over two stories of the Museum and the only one of its kind in Australasia - the film is a testament to the richness of Wellington’s history and the history of film making in New Zealand. Reaffirming the Museum’s position as the home of Wellington stories, it provides a ‘new way of seeing’ Wellington through intimate moments of our city’s heritage.’

The film’s original music score was composed and performed by Wellington-based Plan 9 who have scored music for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong and The Lovely Bones and have won Best Feature Film Score three times at the NZ Film & Television Awards.

Welcome to Wellington is part of stage one of a multi-million dollar development plan for the Museum of Wellington City & Sea and screens every 40 minutes.
