Wellington jewellery and installation artist Justine Fletcher’s 1260 recognises the Wellington women who signed the Third Suffrage Petition of 1893 that momentously precipitated the law change that gave women the right to vote. 1260 is Justine's second regionally-specific installation project after 607 in the Wairarapa.

Justine’s practice involves re-mapping historical events onto today's rural and urban environments and connecting them with contemporary socio-political issues. In 1260 she makes her characteristic use of familiar household objects and ornaments, casting, collecting and illuminating them in colourful resin and suspending them en mass in ‘chandeliers’ to highlight the lives and struggles of women.
