The poise, the leaps, the rhythm - the Muse of dance & music is entertained by early dance ensemble Capriol & baroque music ensemble Affetto, collaborating to recreate the courtly elegance of Renaissance Europe. It will start with your big toe ... before you are engulfed and then swept along in this wash of harmony, luscious instrumentation, the physicality of the dance, and a glimpse of the past brought vividly to life.

The dancers are led by the amazing Katherine Davies - The Dancing Mistress - and her most graceful Capriol team comprising David Robb, Angela Wells, Shannon Wanty and Nadia Benton.

"Affetto doesn’t just give us an academic glimpse into a bygone era. Affetto transports us there, to celebrate the lives, loves, joys and torments of those who populated that place in time – men and women just like us. They step out of history into our hearts and minds. Here is early music-making at its very best - impeccable musicianship, inspired interpretation and innovative programming" - Palmerston North Tribune.

Jayne Tankersley - soprano & percussion
Peter Reid - cornetto
Amelia Giles - baroque violin
Kevin Kim - recorder
John Gluyas - sackbut
Polly Sussex - gamba
Philip Griffin - theorbo, baroque guitar, voice
Rachael Griffiths-Hughes - harpsichord, organ

3 performances - 2 in Ponsonby, 1 in Hamilton.

See photos below of the Theorbo, recently constructed by luthier Jason Petty, the first ever built in NZ.
