My name is Robert Koffie Fugah and I am a professional African drumming and dance instructor and performer.

I grew up in a village called Abor from the Volta Region of Ghana where traditional music and dance is part of our daily lives. Music and dance are a huge part of me. I under took professional African dance and drumming training in Accra, the capital of Ghana, at the Community Youth Cultural Centre under the government’s National Commission on Culture. I have taught African dance and drumming for about 15 years in schools and to expatriates both in Ghana and abroad. During this time I have continued to perform personally nationally and internationally at events such as NAFAC, KIDDAFEST and PANAFEST. I have worked extensively in schools throughout Accra, building a solid reputation with staff and management as a reliable, hardworking teacher.

I am passionate about my arts and love to see children grow and develop their enjoyment also. This reputation has seen me teach daily lessons in the largest international school in Ghana over the past 7 years. There I often teach large groups of children from the age of 5 up to secondary school students. Classes vary from weekly drumming or dance lessons through to preparation for large scale performances which are often filmed for screening on Ghana TV.
I visited New Zealand in August 2012 and performed on TV1 Goodmorning.

Since making New Zealand home in August 2013 I've been very busy working locally in Central Otago and supporting drumming groups and running workshops across the country.
I thoroughly enjoy finding opportunities to share my love of African drumming and dance with kiwis.

Robert is offering two sessions:

Monday 1 Sept and Tuesday 2 Sept
Cost: $25 for one session and $40 for both
Student rates available upon request.
