Terrorism - Hostage Taking and Captivity

One night only

A unique opportunity to hear the experiences of Terry Waite, former advisor to the Arch Bishop of Canterbury and hostage negotiator, held captive for 5 years in Beirut.
Dr Terry Waite CBE is currently in New Zealand writing a book, and as he is staying in the area has agreed to spend an evening at the Central Hawkes Bay Municipal Theatre.
Terry Waite has spent a large part of his life as a hostage negotiator, and had dealt directly with General Amin in Uganda, Col. Ghadaffi in Libya, Hezbollah in Beirut, and Revolutionary Guards in Iran. He was captured in Beirut and spent almost five years in solitary confinement. During this time he faced a mock execution, and almost lost his life on several occasions.

During the course of this special 'one off' evening, he will speak about his experiences as a negotiator, and also as a captive, as well as discussing hostage-taking and terrorism today. There will be an opportunity for people to ask questions and discuss.
He is currently engaged in many projects, and is still involved with hostages and their families. Proceeds from tonight will be divided between a local charity and the charity 'Hostage' set up by Terry many years ago.

As an extra, he will read a couple of extracts from a humorous book he is currently writing, part of which is set in the Central Hawkes Bay Area.
