On Saturday 27 September, there is a public walk-through of the Arras Tunnel from 11am to 2pm.

A wreath-laying ceremony to honour the New Zealand Engineers Tunnelling Company (NZETC) will be held at 10.30am at the National War Memorial followed by the official opening of the Arras Tunnel and public walk-through from 10.50am.

Wreaths will be laid by:

• Hon Christopher Finlayson, Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage

• Isabelle Pilarowski, Carrière Wellington and Christophe Serieys, Deputy General Director of Arras City Council, representing the Mayor of Arras

• Colonel John Howard with descendants of NZETC veterans

• Her Worship, the Mayor of Wellington Celia Wade-Brown

• Robert Hill, Royal New Zealand RSA.

Pedestrian access to the wreath-laying ceremony is from the Taranaki Street end of Buckle Street and up the steps to the National War Memorial.

Pedestrian access to the tunnel walk-through is from the Sussex Street end of Buckle Street. (Basin Reserve side of the tunnel)

Minister Finlayson will deliver a short speech to open the tunnel and he will then lead the official party and other guests through the tunnel prior to the 11am public walk-through.

This will be your only chance to walk through the Arras Tunnel before it opens to traffic on Monday 29 September 2014.
