Every Saturday from 21 June to 6 September 2014, get a taste for the performing arts. We have 12 weeks of free family fun to get you through winter! From ballet to comedy, story-telling to hip hop, and theatre techniques, there is something for everyone in our 2014 Pick & Mix programme. Every Saturday morning, musicians, dancers, actors and storytellers will perform and run workshops for the whole family to enjoy for free. This is a great opportunity to introduce your kids, family and friends to performing arts entertainment and activities. Come and go as you please, there are no tickets or allocated seating. Just turn up and join in the fun or just relax and be entertained - it’s the perfect start to the weekend.

Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra

Witness an unheard-of gathering. Eight Musicians, eight... Trombonists!? The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s ‘Aucktet’ attempts daring feats of musical entertainment. Risking life and lip they perform music that was thought not possible to be performed by a lone trombone, let alone eight. Seeing is believing!

Workshop 11.30am
Learn to play trombone and then perform with the group. No previous experience necessary. Limited number of trombones available so be in quick on the day.

Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra is Auckland’s leading performing arts organisation, and the city’s resident full-time professional symphony orchestra. In more than 80 performances annually, the APO presents a full season of symphonic work showcasing many of the world’s finest classical musicians. Renowned for its innovation, passion and versatility, the APO collaborates with some of New Zealand’s most innovative artists, including recent performances with Six60, leading Auckland hip hop artists in its Remix the Orchestra performance; Nathan Haines; and the Topp Twins.
