A Kiwi comedy/drama by Carl Nixon/2010
Directed by Terry Hooper
Auditions: Sunday, July 20, at 11am
Set in a Chinese-owned fish and chip shop, the play follows a new romance between Pakeha employee Jason and the owner’s daughter. The path of true love never runs smoothly, however, and racial and cultural differences as well as pressure from friends and family threaten to derail their relationship. A hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking look at Kiwi culture. Contains adult language and content.
Cast opportunities
Jason, a Pakeha New Zealander comes to work in a fish and chip shop owned by a Chinese immigrant, Mr Chan, and his obese Pakeha wife. Against her father’s wishes, Rhea starts a relationship with Jason and falls pregnant. Things turn bad when Jason is caught up in an act of racial violence perpetrated by one of his long-time mates.
This is a multi-role play that requires good characterisation and an ability to switch quickly from one role to another. The auditions will be in a workshop format with no sections needed to be learnt, but a good understanding of the play is required.

1 female, Asian descent (18-25)
