Inside Red China (1957) followed by Big Nose & Body Music (1988).

Inside Red China:
To discover what was happening to a quarter of the world’s population, a free lance British film unit entered China and obtained these unrestricted impressions of life under communist rule.

While travelling between some of China's main centres, the film crew investigate the disappearance of the European presence from Shanghai. Destinations also include the Imperial City (Beijing) and its modern dimensions - the Catholic cathedral, the Temple of Heaven, the Zoo, the university, and the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge (completed in 1957).

A korowai (cloak) from King Koroki was especially made to be presented to Chairman Mao and travelled to China with filmmaker Ramai Hayward. It now is now housed at the Beijing Museum. In an interview with Hayward from the late 1980’s she explained that Chairman Mao Tze Tung was very interested in the way the cloak was made and the way the feathers were woven into the garment. Hayward counted this as one of her most memorable moments.

Big Nose and Body Music:
Jack Body is a New Zealand composer. His fascination with sound takes him on a personal odyssey to China. His enthusiasm and obvious enjoyment of a wide variety of experiences brings out the beauty and energy of a China rarely seen on screen.
