In this new solo play Jan Bolwell tells the story of her grandfather's war on the Western Front.

Is it, as Latin poet Horace says, 'a sweet and honourable thing to die for your country'? Jan Bolwell puts this question both to her grandfather and to the audience as she plays his teenage granddaughter. At first her grandfather is reluctant to talk about the war but gradually Jan coaxes him to reveal what actually happened to him and his mates in the trenches of France and Flanders.

This is the third in a trilogy of solo plays Jan has written about her family. 'Standing on my Hands' (her father's WW2 experiences), 'Here's Hilda' (about her grandmother & a Chapman Tripp Award nominee), and now her grandfather.
