Come, retreat to the slopes of Whatitiri Mountain, relax and create in a place,as our district council has tagged it, of “outstanding natural beauty;” dry stone walls, taraire trees and kereru.

Three resident artists/tutors are opening the doors of their studios over four weekends in March to offer intense but fun art workshops.

Try your hand at the ancient art and craft of pottery under the expert tutorage of Janet Hyde in her EarthBound Potteries studio, explore multi media creative painting with Jane Whiting in “The Cowshed” or discover alternative photographic methods and experiment with Graham Hughes at his Gallery 259 in Maungatapere.

Joining the event all the way from Colombia is Beatriz H. Restrepo to run classes in Afro/Latin dancing, creative dancing and folk dances of the World. Beatriz is a professional dancer and teacher who, over 30 years, has developed her own unique styles of dance as she has travelled from Colombia, to USA, and then on through the Pacific. She is here to share them with us and to run her unique Stretch & Release exercise classes as well.

Her partner Beat Rettenmund was born and trained as a teacher in Switzerland. He is presenting a 4 weekend Drama course which will culminate in a theatrical presentation. He too travelled the Americas, studying theatre with Latin American masters then toured through the Americas , presenting street theatre, working in schools , training young people in creative writing, acting and stagecraft and helping in public events like writing and directing theatrical aspects of the annual Colombian Cultural Festival in San Francisco.

The main dance, drama, photography, painting, pottery courses are complimented by daily one hour classes in creative writing, drawing, stretch & release exercise, and music /piano.

Check out these courses which are designed to be fun and motivating then come to enjoy and experience the deep satisfaction of completing some of your very own creations in a peaceful and beautiful place.
