Relationship breakdown and separation may result in difficult communication. Individuals may harbour unresolved feelings that influence communication with their ex- partners. Continued dialogue is important especially when children are involved.

After separation, responsibility for the manner in which parents communicate with each other and with their children is critical. The outcome has an impact on all involved, and on future decision making.

This workshop will look at effective communication to eliminate much pain and arguments as parents work to agree and make plans for the care of their children.

Facilitators: Sherine Meting is a trained counsellor and professional life coach who holds a Bachelor of Counselling Degree. Sherine has extensive experience in counselling children, young people, adults and couples and families who have experienced grief, loss, change and trauma.  In addition to her counselling work at Skylight, Sherine also facilitates the Ministry of Justice - Parenting Through Separation course, which is a fully-funded course for parents who have separated. Sherine also has expertise in working with people with autism and Asperser's syndrome.

Dr. Sally Jansen van Vuuren holds a PhD from Victoria University and post-graduate qualifications in counselling and in information management. Prior to a counselling career, Sally had a professional background working in the areas of organisational change, knowledge management, learning and development. Sally views communication skills as critical to individual well-being particularly through difficult times such as separation and family change.
