Colourful performances at Create-A-Kitchen Lunar Festival2014

Celebrating the Chinese Year of the Horse featuring a ‘Yu Opera’ performance by one of China’s most famous artists from Zhengzhou.

Yu Opera is famous for its strident voices, strong rhythms, and intensive use of spoken language. With purposely unsophisticated performances, Yu Opera vividly depicts the nature of the Henan people: outspoken, straightforward, with a down-to-earth attitude and a good sense of humor.

Other highlights at the Lunar Festival, which will be held at The Trusts Arena in Henderson, will include a ‘Pipa’, a traditional Chinese music instrument, solo performance by Miss Chinese contestants, traditional Chinese acrobatics and a performance by magician, Andre Vegas, a finalist in New Zealand’s Got Talent.

Special VIP guests at the event organised by World TV Limited, will include key government officials, leaders from political parties and MPs along with representatives from the Chinese, Japanese and Korean Consulates.

Create-A-Kitchen Lunar Festival is a highlight in the calendar for Chinese, Koreans and Japanese living in New Zealand and is now an increasingly popular event among all Kiwis, and will be a grand celebration with something for everybody.

A large crowd is expected to attend the event as usual and there will be a wide variety of stalls selling Asian food and various products.

The festival commences at 3pm Saturday 25 January and culminates with the main programme of entertainment attended by the guests of honour and VIPs starting at 8pm. Entry is free. The event wraps up with a spectacular fireworks display at 10.00pm.

The number of attendees has grown from about 25,000 at the inaugural event in 2008 to around 60,000 in 2013. Create A Kitchen Ltd is the title sponsor for this year.

The event will be promoted via WTV’s network of 10 pay TV channels, one free-to-air TV channel and three radio stations together with its website istars.co.nz and digital point-of-sale signage media.
