Please join us on Wednesday 4 June at 12.15pm at the Ministry for Culture and Heritage to hear Nancy Swarbrick on Creature Comforts: New Zealanders and their pets – an illustrated history.

Nancy's book was published by Otago University Press late last year and as well as tracing the evolution of pet culture in New Zealand, the book asks why companion animals have become so important to our way of life. In this talk, Nancy will discuss one possible reason – an international movement that began in the nineteenth century and still resonates today.

Nancy is Managing Editor for Te Ara: The Encyclopedia of New Zealand. She was inspired to research and write Creature Comforts after preparing an encyclopedia entry about pets.

We look forward to seeing you there.
