Video editing is both an artistic and technical process where video footage is combined or altered from its original form to a new version. This course introduces you to basic video editing on Moviemaker: learn how to cut and montage video footage.

The artistic part of video editing consists of deciding what video elements to keep, delete, or combine so that they come together in an organised, logical, and visually pleasing manner. The technical process of video editing consists of copying the various elements onto a single source like CD or DVD Rom for final viewing.

Movie Maker is a software that allows you to create and edit videos. This program is manufactured by Microsoft Windows and is available to those who use Windows on their computer. It is easy and fun to use.

For first night, please bring your own video footage in standard video format on a memory stick or DVD. MPeg (MP4) and AVI are the best. If your own video camera software does not allow you to save files in generic formats, you can download some free software called Handbreak to do this on. Please call us at the office if you need some advice about this.

If you would like a 'sound track' for your video, bring music in MP3 format.

This is not a course for converting old video footage into modern formats. See note below about Handbreak freeware for conversion of old formats.
