Jointly presented by Auckland Permaculture Workshop and Earthwhile.

A half-day hands-on workshop using split bamboo to make an attractive and sturdy bean tunnel that is 100% compostable at end of life (2-3 years).

Often unfairly maligned, bamboo is in fact a great resource. In this hands-on workshop you will learn about selecting, cutting and splitting bamboo, from which we will make a sturdy and attractive bean tunnel. Using only natural fastenings and preserving methods, the whole structure will be able to return to the earth at the end of its life (c. 2-3 years). Don’t like beans? Use it to grow passionfruit, choko, tomatoes, cucumbers…

Tutor Ron Sperber is director of Earthwhile Ltd and a tutor with Auckland Permaculture Workshop. He works in the field of permaculture and sustainability education and is a recognised face for many school children in Auckland, whom he teaches waste minimisation and composting. He wrote and directed the popular DVD “Composting Kids”. Being an avid organic gardener, Ron is passionate about using appropriate technology and locally available resources, such as bamboo.

Please bring gloves, a drink, and weather-appropriate clothing.
