Emil is a club dj, radio host, musicologist and music producer with a passion for Caribbean, African, Latin and Brazilian music and club cultures from outside of the Western mainstream.

Emil has been involved in music most of his adult life, starting out as a hip hop artists, moving on to produce reggae and, more lately, working as a dj and club promotor. Together with the Boom shakalaka collective, he runs a biweekly radio show on Basso, focusing on dance music and club cultures from different parts of the world, mostly focusing on the whole African continent, the Caribbean and Latin America.

As a producer, Emil has, apart from releasing a body of bootleg remixes within different genres, worked with prominent reggae artists, such as Jah Mason and Lutan Fyah. He has also, through his label Maasto Records, been involved in launching the genre ‘baltik bass’, where folklore from the Baltic sea region meet the urban dance floor.
