The Association of Book Crafts NZ is hosting an international conference Inside Outside - a case for the book.

The conference provides a platform for discussion and interchange on all aspects of book production, the bindings and contents of both traditional and innovative structures.

There is an exciting programme of presenters with international renowned Julie Chen (USA) and Dominic Riley (UK) as key note speakers.The conference covers conservation / history, exhibition of books, design, illustration, book arts, book collecting, education….and more.

This event will be of interest to bookbinders, book artists, artists, librarians, conservators, book and fine print collectors, curators, teachers and hobbyists.

Julie Chen - an extended presentation on the Friday afternoon
The Movable Book
The use of pop-ups and movables are popular with book artists, both for their playfulness and for their ability to contribute to the conveyance of serious content. Julie Chen will demonstrate how to make some simple movable structures and will discuss the importance of integrating structure and content to create meaningful experiences for the reader.

Dominic Riley is offering two of his highly regarded master classes:
Creative gold tooling: an alternative approach, October 20 – 21 (2 days)
Leather decorating techniques, October 22 – 23 (2 days)
