We are curious about the prevalence of 'nihilism' within Western culture. From popular culture to scientific materialism, it can be said that nihilism presents as a dominant, if not taken-for-granted attitude. We propose a 'Buddhist Ethic of the Middle Way' as a response.
In this weekend program we will identify examples of the 'nihilistic' attitude, establish a problematic in relation to ethics and explore Buddhist understandings of nihilism, emphasising how inherent confusion results in, and reflects nihilistic views. In fact, Buddhism helps us appreciated the habitual and nuanced presentation of nihilism within our 'ordinary' thinking.
Countering nihilism from the Buddhist view can then be understood as essential to true liberation.

$50 per session, $100 two sessions.
