NZSM presents an event celebrating the life and achievements of Jack Body in his 70th year.

Adjunct Associate Professor Jack Body joined the staff at the School of Music in 1980 and taught composition through until his retirement from teaching in 2009. He has been an unflagging advocate for New Zealand Music, an ethnomusicologist, entrepreneur and impresario.

San Francisco’s ‘Other Minds Festival’ described composer Jack Body as ‘the world’s greatest undiscovered composer’ but here in New Zealand he is renowned for his innovation, energy, enthusiasm and achievements.

NZSM is hosting a special concert event in honour and acknowledgement of his far-reaching influence on the direction of music making and creation in New Zealand as well as the way New Zealand music is received and respected globally.

The New Zealand String Quartet, quartet in residence at NZSM, will perform three works that represent a cross-section of his work: Saetas, A House in Bali, and three shorter works gathered together under the title Yunan Sketches.

The concert will be followed by a reception in the foyer of the Adam Concert Room. If you intend to attend the reception, RSVP to composition@nzsm.ac.nz for catering purposes.

Event admission: Free event but RSVP for catering purposes
