These two newly acquainted Westies have brought their guitars and voices together to delight, amuse and entertain.

Jan and Bevis met in late 2012 at a concert at the Llama Lounge and have been getting to know each other, through their music, ever since. Both have been in various musical line-ups and bring novel arrangements to the rich variety of material upon which they developed their craft. Their progress so far could be likened to the tale of the tortoise and the hare – a balance of agility and stability, sparkling guitar arrangements and soaring melodies. And the only winners in the race are the audience.

Together, Jan and Bevis perform songs you already know and love and songs you don’t know but will love anyway. With two guitars and two voices they create a unique tapestry of sound. They are enjoying exploring great songs and giving them new life. You are sure to enjoy the results.

Jan Elliott, a singer songwriter and member of the Christchurch Folk Club for many years, has been a regular performer on many stages such as The Cathedral Square for the Christchurch City Council, at the Christchurch Arts Centre and the Christchurch Folk Club, as well as Whitecliffs Music Festival, Waipara Wine and Food Festival, Waihi Bush Festival of Music and other festivals around New Zealand.

Highlights of her musical journey are winning the 'CTV (Canterbury Television) Talent Quest' and being awarded a thirty minute TV appearance called ‘Jan Rapley Live at Bourbon St’ which featured a number of Christchurch's notable performers such as Graham Wardrop and Al Park of the Latterday Sinners band.

She features on the CD called 'Christchurch Folk and Acoustic' produced by Christchurch Folk Club with two songs.

Jan’s songs are compelling and quirky with lyrics that will move and touch your heart. There’s a mix of light-hearted covers and her own compositions and songs. Her mellifluous voice conveys emotion and depth through her songs, inspired by her life’s journey.

Influences are singers such as Joni Mitchell, and Joan Armatrading as well as contemporary artists, Shawn Colvin and The Indigo Girls. Jan's voice has been described as 'pure', 'beautiful' and 'natural'.

Bevis England lost interest in classical piano lessons when he was given his first guitar. After residences at pubs and restaurants in Scotland, festival and club appearances in Edinburgh and Hong Kong, and various side trips in between, he returned to Auckland and discovered Poles Apart and Titirangi Folk Music Club. He was a founding member of Thursday (with Sieffe La Trobe) and has since played festivals and clubs throughout New Zealand. As a member of Gumdiggers Bush Band he played electric bass and guitar at corporate events, private functions and the Auckland Folk Festival, where he has also performed solo.

Bevis has performed in many musical settings wearing a variety of hats and is known as an innovative guitarist and lyricist. Despite his roots in British traditional folk music and American contemporary folk and jazz, together with his interest in British ‘prog rock’ (Emerson Lake & Palmer, Yes, Jethro Tull), he has always been drawn back to his original material.
