Join us for the Japanese Film Evenings for 2014!

Japanese films shown at the University of Auckland are usually screened on the last Thursday or Friday of the month from 7:30pm and are preceded by a documentary about Japanese culture from 7:15pm. (March 2014 screening will be held on Saturday 29 March from 13:30 as a special screening for kids!)

All films have English subtitles.
Admission is free and booking is not necessary.

March film " Komaneko The Curious Cat + Komaneko's Christmas "

Perfect for little ones, and captivating even for big kids and adults

Komaneko is from the creator, Tsuneo Goda, of the famous animation character – Domo.

Tsuneo Goda firstly made the 5 min animation, “Komaneko – the First Step” as a demonstration work of stop-motion animation for an exhibition. Well-received by the audience, the film was invited by many international animation festivals and obtained the Excellence Prize (Animation Division) of the Japan Media Arts Festival 2003.

Tsuneo Goda then spent 4 years to develop the short film into an one-hour animation, “Komaneko – the Curious Cats”. Screening together with “Komaneko’s Christmas – a Lost Present”, the latest short film of Komaneko.

Presented by the Consulate-General of Japan, The University of Auckland, The University of Waikato, The Japan Foundation.
