For hundreds of years people have wanted to defy gravity and fly!

MOTAT’s latest School Holiday Experience explores the four basic principles of flight- weight, lift, drag and thrust plus you will be able to create your own gravity defying, flying machines. Visitors will learn the physics of gravitational forces in a way that triggers their imagination and interest.

Our four fun and learning filled activities will help you answer how a parachute and rocket works and also let you obtain your very own MOTAT Aeronaut License.

In ‘Fantastic Flying Machine’ you can design and build your very own machine then test it in the MOTAT wind tunnel to see how much lift you can achieve and how well it will defy gravity! ‘Drop-Copter’ lets you build and decorate your very own copter, then test how well it spins. Children can modified it then test how is performs. If you were to build your own ‘Mini Parachute’- how long would yours stay in the air? Also you can build your very own ‘Strawket’; or straw rocket; see if you can make yours Blast Off!

Each activity area will teach visitors about a different principle and each one gets a stamp in your Aeronaut training book. When you’ve learnt all four principles you can enter the competition to win a Defying Gravity prize pack full of fantastic flying machines!

Plus the Science Roadshow will be at MOTAT all school holidays.

You’ll learn and experience this and more during ‘Defying Gravity’!
