Little is known of Anne Hathaway, the woman who at the age of 26 fell in love with and pregnant to 18 year old William Shakespeare, so Thiessen's play falls somewhere between imagined history and unauthorised biography. The rich textured modern prose seamlessly and poignantly travels in and out of Shakespeare’s time and our own.

As she contemplates the reading of his will after Shakespeare's funeral we enter the psyche of a woman who is recognisably Elizabethan but thoroughly modern. Hathaway, played by RADA trained actress Suzy Sampson, is a prototypical cougar and a resourceful dutiful mother. Playwright Thiessen explores, with humour and pathos, the life Anne might have endured in Stratford raising their 3 children while her husband was in London unwittingly becoming the greatest playwright our world has ever known.
