A free seminar in Hamilton will provide the latest information on research and treatment for Macular Degeneration (the age-related eye disease) on Saturday 07 June. To register phone 0800 622 852.
Macular Degeneration is a chronic eye disease that is the leading cause of blindness accounting for 48% of blindness in NZ. One in seven people over 50 have some evidence of it and the incidence increases with age with 1 in 4 over 80 suffering from vision loss. It is estimated the number of people with MD will increase by 70% by 2030.
While many people dismiss the early warning signs of MD as a normal part of the ageing process, everyone over the age of 50 should have their macula checked regularly, particularly those with a family history of MD, who have a 50% chance of developing the disease.
MDNZ welcomes to our seminar those with macular degeneration, their families and friends, medical professionals and anyone with an interest in learning more about macular degeneration.
