Thursday 23rd January and Friday 24th January at The Herald Theatre, Aotea Centre, Mayoral Drive

Proudly presented by Nga Rangatahi Toa Creative Art Initiative in association with Creative New Zealand and The Edge...

Manawa Ora is a powerful and innovative inter-arts work that gives voice to those who are not always heard and shows the world through the eyes of those who are not always seen.

Marginalised rangatahi, excluded from mainstream education and living chaotic and challenging lives, are supported by established actors, musicians and visual artists in presenting a collaborative work that is both authentic and challenging.

Entry is by koha at the door, but you've gotta get yourself a ticket....

No tire kickers! We want to fill this theatre to celebrate our rangatahi!

Manawa Ora, the performance, springs from a week of intensive one-to-one mentoring workshops in theatre, visual arts and music held in December 2013. Rangatahi were matched up with an actor, artist or musician and over five days one-act plays were devised, performance poetry pieces were written, art works were created and music was recorded to bring the real life stories of our rangatahi to the stage. The Manawa Ora performance season will weave live theatre works with documentary footage of the creative process explored during the week-long workshops, all presented against a backdrop of rangatahi-created vibrant aerosol murals and a raw hip hop soundtrack. The end result is a true interactive, inter-arts performance not to be missed.

This is an organic work that showcases personal stories of survival and hope. Through story-telling Manawa Ora aims to make connections across Tamaki Makaurau, across genre, across lives and across our embodied experiences that make us who we are.
