Matariki 2014 - The Maori Contingent and The Maori Battalion
Nga tirohanga a mua ki muri - Looking back to the future

What better way to celebrate Matariki than to remember those who have passed before us. Kiwi North is hosting an exhibition featuring The Maori Contingent - Pioneer Maori Battalion. This display is in conjunction with the WW1 centennial commemorative exhibition "The Great War1914 / 1918 - Northland Remembers".

During the Great War, Maori fought on the Gallipoli Paninsula and on the battlefields of France, distinguishing themselves as brave warriors on all fronts.
I tu te Maori ki te Pakanga Nui o te Ao I te raenga kuiti o Gallipoli, me nga whenua pakanga o WiiWii, hei whakatu i te kaha me te toa o te Maori.

It goes on to display the 28th NZ Maori Battalion, WW2. This exhibition will continue to develop as more people come forward to share their stories and memories. We are particularly interested in 'A' Company.

Daily 10am to 4pm
